HARD WAX VS. SOFT WAX

Hard (Stripless) Wax:

  • Often less painful than other waxing methods
  • Less Mess
  • Doesn’t stick to your skin
  • Excellent at grabbing shorter hair
  • Ideal for working in smaller sections and areas like underarms, and facial, Brazilian and Bikini waxing
  • Can be applied twice on the same spot when necessary
  • Can be applied thicker than soft wax

Soft (Strip) Wax:

  • Adheres well to micro-tiny and fine hair
  • Ideal for larger body parts
  • Gives maximum spreadability
  • Excellent for speed waxing
  • Has a longer setting time
  • Exfoliating
  • Works well on short to long hairs

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF WAXING?

Waxing is a hair removal method which is semi-permanent in nature and removes the hair from the root. It will take around two to eight weeks for new hair to grow back; however, in some individuals, there is re-growth in a week.
The benefits of waxing are:
  • You will have less regrowth in between appointments
  • Your hair will grow back progressively finer and sparser
  • Your skin will get gentle exfoliation
  • Your skin will be less prone to ingrown and inflammation
  • You will have less annoying itching and prickliness
  • You will avoid the risk of nicks and cuts
  • You will have less chance of ingrown hairs
  • You will enjoy the attention of a professional esthetician
IS THERE ANY DOWNTIME?

A typical treatment takes about 15 to 30 minutes to perform, depending on the area that’s being treated. After treatment, there is no downtime. Patients are encouraged to resume all normal activities, however, it not recommended to engage in activities that will result in you sweating for the first 48 hours.

HOW SHOULD I PREP FOR MY WAX APPOINTMENT?

If you have shaved recently it's recommended you wait at least 2 weeks before booking your wax appointment. Your first bikini wax will remove the majority of hair that's grown above the skin. Because they grow in different cycles, hairs that were growing below the skin’s surface during your first wax will be removed during your new few waxes. After three to four waxes, all hairs should be growing in the same cycle, which means longer-lasting results for you!

Prepping the area before a wax is just as important as taking care of it after a wax. Follow these tips to ensure a quick and less painful appointment. It's very important to follow instructions about what to do at home in order to get the best results from your waxing treatment

BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT:
  • The hair must be at least 1/4-inch to 1/2-inch for best results. If you have coarse hair it should be closer to 1/2-inch for the first few waxes. It may take up to three waxing treatments to achieve smooth skin due to the fact that hair grows in stages and all of your hair is never at the same stage.
  • For better results, exfoliate the area 24 hours before your appointment. It works great and loosens up those stubborn hairs that like to stick to your skin. This will help give the wax a good grip on the hair, and not your skin.
  • It's important to keep the genital area moisturized and hydrated. Dehydrated and dry skin can cause the skin to lift during the wax service and cause the hair break, rather than coming out the follicle.
  • Shower or freshen up before you come in. The cleaner you are, the more thorough we can be.
  • You tend to be more sensitive right before your period, so keep that in mind when making appointments. If you are on your period, put a fresh tampon in right before your service and you will be fine.
  • Try to not apply any deodorants, lotions, soaps, powders, or self-tanning products to the area you will be waxing.
  • Avoid heat. No tanning beds, hot tubs, and saunas before your appointment.
  • Avoid a lot of alcohol the night before a wax. It can thin the blood and increase your risk of bruising.
  • If you are anxious about the pain, take two Advil or IBUProfen 45 mins prior but be careful, more than two can thin the blood and increase your risk of bruising. Numbing creams are not necessary and aren't really effective.

AFTER YOUR APPOINTMENT:

  • Wear loose-fitting clothes after having a wax. If you wear tight clothing you may irritate the skin which can cause soreness and possibly infection. Leftover wax can irritate the skin, so make sure you use enough oil to get rid of the wax residue. Leftover oil can clog pores and cause bumps, so thoroughly wipe your entire waxed area with a fragrance-free wipe to get the oil out of your pores.
  • Avoid any sweaty or sexual activities that may for the first 24 to 48 hours after your Brazilian wax. Activities can include sex, working out, hot baths, showers, steam rooms, and saunas. Heat can cause further irritation and increase the risk of infection. Instead, stick to lukewarm water when cleansing the area. Friction and bodily fluids can disrupt the healing process and increase the risk of infection. It's generally best to give your skin time to recover before resuming sexual or sweaty activity.
  • Moisturize regularly. Moisturizing the waxed area is crucial to keep the skin hydrated and prevent dryness or itchiness. Choose a gentle, fragrance-free moisturizer and apply it daily to the waxed area. Look for moisturizers that contain soothing ingredients like chamomile, tea tree oil, or lavender to help calm the skin.
  • Do not use fragrance products such as deodorants, lotions, soaps, powders, or self-tanning products to the area you will be waxing on the area or you will increase your risk of ingrown hairs and irritation.
  • Avoid touching or picking. If you notice a few strays when you get home, you can tweeze them in the direction of the hair growth. Resist the urge to touch, scratch, or pick at the waxed area, as it can introduce bacteria and lead to infections or further irritation. Touching or picking at the waxed area can also disrupt the healing process and increase the risk of ingrown hairs. It's important to let the skin heal naturally and avoid any unnecessary manipulation.
    • Schedule regular maintenance. Waxing doesn’t have to just be for special occasions or vacations. To maintain the smooth and hair-free results of your Brazilian wax, it's recommended to schedule regular waxing sessions. The frequency may vary depending on your hair growth rate, but typically it's recommended to get a Brazilian wax every four to six weeks. Consistent waxing can help weaken the hair follicles and result in finer, slower regrowth over time, making it a less painful experience. Avoid shaving between waxing appointments, it will interrupt the process and stimulate the hair growth.

      5 POSSIBLE AFTER-EFFECTS OF WAXING
      REDNESS
Don't worry—it'll disappear over time. Generally it can last from a few minutes to a few days, depending on your skin sensitivity.

      ITCHING
Listen: we know it's going to be tempting, but try really, really hard not to scratch those freshly waxed areas. Your skin will be new and sensitive, so you should be careful not to cause further irritation by scratching. If it's still annoying you, try a dab of aloe vera gel.

      BUMPS
Some bumps are a result of post wax irritation and will go away on their own within a few hours to a few days. To help calm your skin, you can use our Fur Ingrown Oil to help soothe and treat any ingrown hairs, bumps or breakouts.

      STUBBLE
If you've just gotten waxed and are already seeing a 5 o'clock shadow, don't panic! Everyone's hairs grow in different cycles so it's possible that hairs below the skin's surface are just now sprouting after your wax service.

Daily moisturizing between services is key, since dry or brittle hair can easily break during a bikini or Brazilian wax service. So just go with the flow and allow these hairs to grow so we can remove them at your next reservation.

      INGROWN HAIRS

An ingrown hair happens when a hair re-enters the skin and curls back within the follicle, instead of growing back out of the skin. Ingrown hairs are a very common problem for women who shave, wax, or simply have a more course hair texture. For some women who have thicker or curlier hair, their likelihood of getting ingrown hairs is greater. That is because this type of hair has a higher tendency to curl back under the skin.

HOW CAN I PREVENT OR TREAT INGROWNS?
    • Wear loose-fitting clothes after having a wax. If you wear tight clothing you may irritate the skin which can cause soreness and possibly infection.
    • If an ingrown occurs, apply a hot compress or a soft washcloth soaked in warm water. Taking a warm bath can also be an alternative. Warm soaks soften the area around the ingrown hair and help push an ingrown hair to come out of the skin. This way, it's easier to pull it out.
    • To remove, use sterilized pointed tweezers to encourage the tip of the hair to come out to the surface. Once the tip is out, carefully pluck the end of the hair, in the direction of the hair growth. Before plucking, make sure that the tip is released from the skin. Digging into your skin may cause an infection.
    • You can opt for hydrocortisone cream and pair it with Advil to help alleviate the swelling and redness.
    • Glycolic acid or benzoyl peroxide can be applied as a spot treatment if you discover one or two ingrown pubic hair. But if you notice any irritation sign after using either of those, use the unadulterated aloe vera, instead.
    • 3-10 days after your waxing service, gently exfoliate the waxed area 2-3 times a week with a scrub, just to ensure you prevent ingrown hairs. Important not over-exfoliate and cause damage to the skin.
